I opened up my Poshmark store when the platform took a huge growth back in 2013. At first, I

didn't really take it seriously and posted items every once in a while and tested the waters. Little

by little, I made some sales here and there. It was just enough to give me a little glimpse of hope

with this online community. At the time, I had my Blu Butterfly Vintage brick and mortar store in

the downtown area and as everyone knows, having a physical boutique is very time-consuming!

It left me little time to really dive deep into the Poshmark ocean. In 2017 I closed my B&M and

moved back to Orlando to be with my Dad who was gravely ill with cancer. My heart was broken

that my cute little boutique had to close down for multiple reasons, but I felt like even though I

closed the doors there, my business could still stay alive online. Now, here I am in 2021, and I

LOVE the fact that I moved my shop online indefinitely!

Not only have a met an amazing community of other awesome women who love Vintage Accessories and Clothing, but I became a Poshmark Ambassador with the help of a dear friend of mine in Orlando. She guided me through the steps on how to grow my online closet into what it is today. Currently,  I have over 100k followers and the number of followers is growing daily. I am also a host for the Vintage Vixens on Thursday & Friday nights where I gather with vintage girl pals to share each other's collections of great finds! It is awesome to see the community come together and help each other out. It's other moms, college girls, the 9 - 5 woman - you name it, we are all there for the same reason. Community. And of course, to make some money to support our kids or get that college fund. We help each other reach our goals - and it's a relief coming from a brick-and-mortar store where I felt alone without help!

Before the pandemic hit, some of the other Poshers that I knew in the area got together and we had our first Posh & Sip party! To hear the other ladies’ stories of how they rose from ashes to beauty was truly inspiring. These are the moments I keep close to my heart when the going gets a little tough! I am not saying it has been gravy for me - you have to hustle to get the results that you want! With that being said, If you are considering joining the community and need a little push or confirmation in your entrepreneurial journey, then this is the blog for you!

The Poshmark community has been one of the best I’ve ever encountered as a small business owner. So thankful to have found the perfect platform for BBV. Keep flying high!

XOXO, Selena - Owner @ Blu Butterfly Vintage

How to get started

First, you have to decide what your closet name will be and what you would like to sell. There are so many sellers that have different styles and niches. There is women's clothing, men's clothing & kids’ clothing. They recently added HOME & PETS. I personally LOVE the vintage clothing niche because I have collected it since 1993 (that sounds like a dinosaur number)  and have much appreciation for the quality of vintage clothing. That is my area of expertise. Maybe you have expertise in designer clothing or love pet clothes. Find what you love so that you won't get sick of looking at your inventory but will be excited about what you have.

The next step is to start gathering up your inventory! This is the fun part! If you are first starting out and can not afford to invest in purchasing inventory, ask your best friends or your mom if she has some donations that she would like to give to you start out! I have found that my closest friends have been the best place to source. They are more than willing to help you out when starting your new side hustle - that can become your full-time job. Once you make your first sale, which is super exciting when you do, you can put that money aside to invest into a little more inventory. The best places to the source are online! You can find people selling on the Facebook marketplace and online yard sale sites for the best prices. I have even heard of fellow friends who have bought huge bags of clothes from craigslist that were brand new with tags for nearly nothing. My recommendation is to list 15 items per day on Poshmark to build up your closet. Once you have over 300 active listings in your closet, you will have more traffic flowing into your closet!

How to become a Poshmark Ambassador

You will start to see that your Poshmark closet will begin to snowball when you become an ambassador. But how do you get there? I am going to give you all the steps that my mentor showed me when I fully became committed to my closet back in 2018.

Once you start getting your listings in your closet, start working on sharing & following other Poshers in the community. I call this the 10-10-10-10 rule. You will follow 10 Posh Ambassadors, 10 Fresh Closets, 10 Just Joined and share 10 items - 3 times a day -  from another Poshmark Seller's closet. I know this sounds like a lot, but it really only takes you 10 minutes to follow these steps. you can definitely speed up this process by following as many people as you can and sharing your own closet as well as other seller's closets. The key is to SHARE, SHARE & SHARE!

You will not be left in the cold as far as knowing where you are at in the Poshmark Ambassador journey. On the app, you can find the "My Posh Stats" and Poshmark tells you exactly where you are and what you need to do to get that star! Follow your activity analysis and set your goals daily as an active member of the community and you will be successful! As always, I am here to mentor you along the way! It's Whatever, Mamacita! You got this! Check out my Youtube Video for a short step-by-step on How to become a Poshmark Ambassador!
